Located
on a hilltop with splendid views, Phanom Rung is an impressive
Khmer temple dating from the early part of the Angkor
Wat period, adorned with superb stone carvings. The temple
comples, recently restored by the Fine Arts Department,
is the centrepiece of this fair, which also features various
exhibits. |

Prasat Phnom Rung stands impressively
at the top of an extinct volcano, Phu Phnom Rung. Its
construction on a high place carries on the customary
practice based on a local belief which worshipped the
supernatural powers of the sacred mountains. |
|
Prasat Phnom Rung was built around the 16th-17th centuries
B.E. The approach to the main tower is from the east.
The plan was systematically laid out, with the doorways
of the galleries directly in front of the porticos of
the prasat on all four sides. |
